A STUDIO IN THE MAKING

THE FOUNDER

KAIDEN JAMES EMERFOLL - PRODUCER | WRITER | CINEMATOGRAPHER

Kaiden Emerfoll is a Minneapolis based filmmaker and the founder of KJE, an independent production company built on the belief that a good story should never be limited by budget.

Having founded KJE at sixteen and completed his first feature film at eighteen, Emerfoll approaches filmmaking both as an art and an exercise in invention. His work is driven by a desire to create visually ambitious cinema with limited resources, with the hope that it will demonstrate to other aspiring artists that the scale of an idea ought not to be held back by the resources available to realize it.

Although he has heard many doubts about his philosophy, he holds firm the belief that filmmaking is not merely a technical art; its an act of community built on social collaboration. Guided by this conviction, he is launching the Filmmaker Collective, an initiative within KJE designed to bring emerging artists together to combine their individual skills, perspectives, and creative ambitions. Through collaboration, he aims to foster the creation of films that might otherwise be considered beyond the reach of a single individual.

While the initiative is in its early stages, Emerfoll’s long-term vision is to grow KJE into a major independent film studio rooted in the Midwest. A studio that develops original films, cultivates emerging talent, and gives a new generation of filmmakers the resources and confidence to bring their visions to life.

THE PHILOSOPHIES

THE RESURGENCE OF INDEPENDENT CINEMA.

We believe artistic ambition should never be limited by the size of a budget, the resources at hand, or the approval of a dying industry. We believe in pursuing original ideas, taking creative risks, and making films on our own terms. Rather than waiting for opportunities to be handed to us, we intend to create them- for ourselves, for our collaborators, and for the filmmakers who will follow.

CREATIVITY OVER BUDGET.

Sure, its easier to throw money at a problem than to solve it creatively. Yet a film's scale is not measured by the money spent bringing it to life, but instead by the passion poured into it. Limitations are inevitable, but the most influential innovations would've never been created without the pressure of past limitations. We approach every constraint as an invitation to invent, finding new ways to realize visions that might otherwise remain locked in a script.

FILMMAKING IS A COLLECTIVE ART.

More than almost any other art form, cinema requires community. A good film is ultimately an amalgamation of souls- a devoted community of people expressing their truest selves through their individual talents, shared knowledge, and creative vision. The right combination of artists can accomplish so much more than what any singular artist could. Thus, b bringing emerging filmmakers together, we seek to turn our individual potential into a collective kinetic energy.

WE BUILD WHAT WE WISH EXISTED.

KJE is an ongoing effort to build an independent filmmaking community capable of realizing ambitious work from the ground up. Every production is an opportunity to experiment, to collaborate, and to prove what is possible. We cant sit around waiting for someone to offer us our dreams, we ought to take action.
